The purpose of the walk is for everyone to recognize that the Tongva existed and we all have a significant role in this web of life as HUMYN Be-ings. We are all connected to and obligated and responsible for NATURE: the water, fire, air, rocks/stones, plants, and animals.
As we walk and tour these locations in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, we recount, remember, re-live, the experience of a culture clash that exploited, segregated, marginalized, commodified and eventually attempted to exterminate the indigenous presence on the land. These actions would forever change and alter the landscape and the indigenous peoples of this place and eventually all of California and these thought, perceptions and actions continue in many societal normalized ways today. Los Angeles was built upon the literal blood, sweat and tears of Tongva ancestors at a devastating and destructive price. It’s a history, rarely if ever acknowledged in mainstream history.
Below are resources that will be used to discuss on the walk.
